Hot Fun in the Summertime: 9 Summer Activities in & Around Marlborough

Summer is right around the corner and we’re gearing up for some fun in the sun! Here’s a roundup of some of our favorite local activities to do in and around Marlborough – from boating to competing in your first triathlon.

  1. Spend an Afternoon by the Salmon River: Easily accessible with no parking fees, The Salmon River State Forest is a perfect spot to cool down with your family. Enjoy the afternoon fishing, followed by a scenic picnic in nature!
  2. Rent a Boat: Just a hop, skip and jump away, East Hampton’s Happiest Paddler offers a variety of boat rentals on Lake Pocotopaug – including kayaks, paddleboats and canoes.  Grab a refreshing bite at one of the many local restaurants post-paddle!
  3. Hit the Links: Grab your buddies and head out for a day of golf at Marlborough’s Blackledge Country Club. The 36-hole public golf course features two distinct 18-hole options for some healthy competition!
  4. Sign up for a Local Triathlon: Marlborough’s very own Lake Terramuggus Triathlon Series is back at it again, offered on various Thursdays throughout summer!  You’ll start with a 500-yard lake swim, followed by a 2-loop bike course and 5K run. Join in for just $30, or gather a relay team for $60!
  5. Shop Local at the Farmer’s Market: We love supporting our local community! Join in on the fun and shop local by stopping by the Marlborough Farmer’s Market for a variety of organic food, veggies, fruits, crafts and local specialties. The market runs on Sundays from 11am-3pm throughout the summer!We also love the Coventry Farmers Market, offered on Sundays from June through October. Keep an eye out for a variety of events like chef demos, samplings and educational workshops!

  8. Enjoy a Local Scoop: Cool down from all the summer fun with a scoop at one of the many local ice cream joints! Our favorite summer hot spots are Harry’s Place (in Colchester), Robb’s Farm (in South Glastonbury) and Marlborough’s very own The Farm at Carter Hill.
  9. Hit the Trail: Rent a bike and hit the trail for some fresh air! At just $20, Meadowbrook Estate guests can rent a bike for the day from Airline Cycles in East Hampton. Plus, the shop happens to be right at the entrance to the Airline Trail. Win, win!
